When you go to ITV’s competitions portal at itv.com/win you’ll see all the entry methods listed for each competition.
It can be any combination of four methods – online entry on the website itself, phone calls, text messages or the free postal entry.
Eagle eyed viewers might notice a curious discrepancy between the competition segments they see on the TV on shows like GMB and This Morning, where the message you send for a text message differs from the one on the website.
From time to time, one of our readers emails us to tell us we’ve got the details wrong, telling us something along the lines of Andi Peters telling them to text the word PRIZE, but our website says WINNER.
Actually, the answer is that both are fine to use – in fact according to the competition terms and conditions for most competitions, when you omit the keyword altogether in the text or misspell it, you entry will still be counted.
There are some exceptions to this – for example when you text the word FIVE for five entries at a discounted price per entry. This only applies to selected ITV prize draws – you can see the details on the ITV Win portal by selecting the competition and choosing the SMS tab on the competition details.
We’ve also got more information about the text message entries and how they work here.
If you’re wondering why the keyword varies, the most likely answer i that it helps the organisers of the competition understand how many entries are driven by the website compared to the promotions on ITV channels broadcast at various times through the day.
By way of example, a competition broadcast on Good Morning Britain might also be listed on the website, as well as featured on the ad breaks throughout the day promoting ITV Win competitions.
It makes sense that the promoters would want to know how much interest an ad during a commercial break generates, as it might be more commercially viable for the ad slot to be sold to another advertiser instead.
Regardless of which keyword is used, each entry in the draw will have the same chance of winning.
