It’s a sad reality that there are huge numbers of people on the planet that are trying to scam others, and as a result, we are all on guard to make sure we don’t fall victim to such unscrupulous individuals.
It’s no great surprise that from time people doubt the authenticity of things that are genuine, and ITV competitions are one of those things that some people suggest are fake or rigged.
Trial By Social Media: The Competition Conspiracy Theories
The accusations that winners are in fact actors, or that postal entries never win are just a few of the crazy theories that spread like wildfire on social media, but back in the real world it makes no sense that any foul play is deliberately being undertaken.
Of course, mistakes are made from time to time, and ITV has had its fair share of unfortunate calamities relating to their competitions over the years (here’s one example where postal entries were mistakenly excluded). On the whole, trying to make extra money by faking prize winners wouldn’t be a smart move.
The company likely make a lot of money from each prize draw they operate, so risking being proven to be fraudulently claiming to give away the prizes would risk losing the trust of the tens of thousands of people that likely enter one of the draws every week.
ITV Website Showcases Winners
If you take a look at ITV Win, they have a whole section of their website showcasing the winners of previous competitions, including half a million pound winner Danielle that regularly appears on the broadcast promotions on ITV, and everyone’s favourite winner Keith who was out when Andi Peters knocked on his door live on GMB’s Wake Up A Winner segment.
All Entries Are Created Equal
How you enter a competition with ITV doesn’t affect your chances of winning. The fact that people make outlandish claims that postal entries never win even mean that Andi Peters feels the need to point out that postal entries do sometimes win when he’s telling us about them.
You might have noticed that all the competition promotions on TV shows push phone, text and online entries ahead of the postal entries, but they all have the same chance of winning to comply with guidelines for free prize draws.
That happens simply because the premium rate entries all earn money for the operator of the competition, whereas the free entry route is in place to comply with gambling commission rules to prevent it being classed as a lottery.
Every Competition Has a Guaranteed Winner
While this may not be the case for every competition elsewhere, all of ITV’s competitions are guaranteed to have a winner. That means that if you are chosen as the winner, they’ll try to contact you a reasonable number of times before deeming you uncontactable and selecting a new winner.
The exception to the rule are some of the totally free entry competitions like Spin to Win on This Morning and Free Cash Friday on GMB and Lorraine, where no-one pays for entry. In some of those promotions, presenters will move on to the next entry chosen if the phone isn’t answered quickly enough.
